Advocate & Outreach Coordinator

Job Description

The Advocate and Outreach Coordinator is a key part of AADA’s outreach program and will provide awareness programming in targeted areas. Being an Advocate is a front-line advocate, first responder to a victim in need. This requires the ability to work quickly and concisely under extreme pressure. Experience providing direct services to families with complex needs is crucial. Understanding of issues related to trauma, child abuse prevention and treatment, family violence, and systems advocacy preferred. Experience with case management and ability to work with diverse individuals. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work with a diverse group of professionals and as part of a team.

 Client Advocacy Duties: 

  • Strict adherence to the AADA’s confidentiality policies & procedures.

  • Complete the required domestic violence and mandated workshops and trainings (travel might be required).

  • Conducting client intakes.

  • Communicating with our clients about their legal case.

  • Accompany victims of crime to hospitals, police departments, and court while providing crisis counseling, information and referrals, assistance with crime victims compensation claims, criminal justice advocacy and personal advocacy.

  • Home, off-site, or office visits as needed to provide case management, safety planning, advocacy, and referrals to families experiencing domestic violence.

  • Provide concrete and advocacy services to families and assume responsibility for motivating families and employing motivation enhancement strategies.

  • Assist with providing a supportive array of interventions including strengthening the parent/child relationship, parent education and skill building, trauma screening, and service linkages.

  • Evaluate emergency financial assistance to victims as needed.

  • Adhere to best practices and empowerment-based approaches to supporting survivors

  • Work collaboratively with police officers in order to effectively provide assistance to victims. 

Outreach Duties:

  • Facilitate community empowerment presentations, workshops, and curriculum for groups of various ages and backgrounds, including survivors and service providers.

  • Facilitate awareness programming for multiple groups.

  • Facilitate domestic violence/teen dating violence presentations to schools and youth serving community organizations.

  • Provide AADA representation at community meetings and awareness events, including fairs, events and media representation.

  • Coordinate referrals to AADA services and other community resources.

  • Provide crisis intervention, safety planning and supportive counseling as needed within the community.

  • Maintain statistics and prepare reports as needed and maintain up-to-date client records.

  • Implement project goals and objectives and prepare an annual report on the progress toward project goals and objectives.

  • Establish and maintain liaisons with the local police departments, District Attorney’s office, and others related to pending litigation on behalf of the victim.

  • Assist with awareness campaigns.

  • Maintaining a good relationship with our allies, partners, and collaborators.

  • Establish and maintain a group of pro bono professionals that will help assist AADA’s clients. 

Administrative Duties:

  • Established cell phone, willing to use for work.

  • Answer and maintain office line and helpline on a rotational basis during business hours and after hours. While keeping records of all incoming and outgoing calls.

  • Ability to work flexible hours.

  • Assist with fundraisers and special events (some of these may be outside agency hours of operation)

  • Other duties as assigned. 

Skills & Experience: 

  • Professional demeanor, strong public speaking and interpersonal skills.

  • Awareness and knowledge of trauma informed advocacy and commitment to social change.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Works well in multi-disciplinary setting within agency and community partners.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

  • Must pass a background check.

  • Candidates should possess strong written and oral communications skills, including public speaking, as well as strong research abilities.

  • Fluent in East or Southeast Asian language is required.

  • Public speaking experience preferred.

  • Legal background is a plus.
